Iron Stars - aminu-troilus

Aminu Troilus, originally from Aganarp, now finds themselves living on Vadhat. A student during the reign of the Tyrant who barely managed to finish their program before the regime fell and the planet turned into a state of transition, Aminu found one of the first shuttle flights off the planet, to anywhere else, and arrived on the planet Vadhat. This world was the second planet to ever join the CBSS, and despite its lofty status as one of the founding members of the brotherhood, conditions here have not improved much. Earlier in the day a courier arrived with a mission. Aminu was invited to be part of the team exploring one of the ruins on the planet's surface, dating to before The Scream. If technology or anything of value will be found there is dubious, but any chance the polity has to advance its research is one the Chairman wishes to spend money on. You are given a pass to board a shuttle this evening, which will bring you across the planet to the west, to the ruins of what was once one of the largest cities on the surface of the world. The streets of Phosphoria are quiet this time of early morning, and the shuttle does not leave until noon. Aminu lanes back on his chair having just accepted the invite to the expedition. This was not what he thought he would do with his live once he was out of university, that plan was a lot more centert on combattintg the scars the revolution and runaway climate had left one his home planet. This expedition was none of that, but it had the potential to be so much more even if that was unlikely. Besides it would allow him to make some new connections, of whose value he had become a lot more appreciative lately. After all he was pretty sure that the good word of some of the revolutionarys he helped back on Aganarp was as much of a factor in his recently completed scholarship as his engendering skills was. He laughs catching himself making excuses. He had excepted the offer because it was extincting, simple as. The rest was a bonus as far as he was concerned. Well Aminu had a job to prepare for and given what it was he better be thuro. So he decides that he was going to make sure his gear is in order. The rest of the day is spent checking his gear thoroughly and informing his friends and family abut what he is up to (as far as aloud of crose) (OOC: How dose interstellar communication work? some sort of direct conetion or data ships? Also I have redyed my gun)

(Communications take one day per hex on the galaxy map to travel between planets. They’re usually beamed messages or sometimes courier ships if it’s sensitive. Things are very much age of sail where sending a message and getting a reply to anything beyond the planet you’re on can take days if not weeks ) (edited)

(You’re on vadhat right now and will be staying on this planet for this first mission. You’re just being flown across its surface to one of the ruins marked on its map ) Your family wishes you luck , and they promise they will think of you often and will continue hoping for your safety. As part of the expedition paperwork you are assigned a flyer at the Pelasgon airport. Its crew will take you to the ruins to meet with the rest of the team, and the pass included willl let you skip security and head right to the tarmac along with any weapons or other gear in your possession that might not normally be allowed on a domestic flight. (OOC: I was aware that I was staing on the Planet but pretty much everyone Aminu knows well is on Aganarp) Aminu goes over his stuff on last time bevor leaving his apartment taking one bus earlier than technically needed. He is nervous but excited. At the airport he cringes at his Laser Pistol not causing any trubbel and waits for the flyer being ready.

Moving through the airport you are ushered through a side door and down to the tarmac directly on showing your pass. You are led out to a small grav flyer with a trio of crew members waiting , completing their pre flight checks. The crew chief waits at the top of the small ramp leading up to the body of the vehicle itself and gives a polite wave upon noticing you approaching. He holds out a hand to assist you with any bags so you can use your hands for the railings leading up. "You must be our passenger. We're about ready to set off when you are. Expedition is eager to meet you and get to work"

"Thanks I should be ready to go" Amin say climbing into the flyer "When will I meat the rest of the team? Oh the Name is Troilus by the way" He says as he reaches the inside of the vehicle, offering his free hand.

The crew chief gives it a hearty shake but doesn't offer their own name in reply. "They're either at the site already making camp outside it, or in the process of flying there like we are. You've got the furthest to go ,and we're going to fire the engines as hot as we can make them, but you'll be coming in as one of the last to arrive. Don't think the group is planning on going in until morning, Hop in,strap in, and we'll be taking off in a minute"

With you aboard the flight crew begins moving the flyer west across the entirety of the planet's surface. The grav plate engines are quiet and you are left mostly to your own thoughts. Passing over the ruins you come to see a small encampment just outside what was once a large factory complex used to manufacture parts for the now fallen space elevator. the flyer sets down at the edge of the encampment where some of the porters here are setting up a pressure tent for you. True to what the pilot said you look to be the last to arrive.

Aminu gathers his things thanks the crew and goes to find the person in charge to report his arrivele. (OOC: I got some tests coming up the next 2 Weeks will probably be less active.)

The exploration group is getting ready to camp for the night to move into the ruins at first light. The person in charge of the expedition is known as Captain, and they look to be someone who got out of the CBSS military recently. They stand straight backed, smoking a cigarette and looking out at the distant ruins, no doubt calculating any number of different things.

Aminu goes up to the Captain and waits for him to agnolage him in a pretty good civilian intimation of standing at attention. It doesn't relay show but he is slightly nervous. The Tyrants reign instilled a fear of military personal in him that isn't entirely banished just by reminding himself that this is not one of regimes goons. The calculating look dose not help. The intelligent owsese where the most dangures onses in and out of uniform.

"Ah, you must be the last of us to get here. Happy to have you" the captain says "You're Troilus, correct?"

He begins looking over his personnel manifest to ensure everything else is in place as you both begin walking back toward the camp. "We've got a long day ahead of us tomorrow and a lot of looking around to be doing. We're going to be the first people to head into the ruins since The Scream ,and there's no telling what we;re going to find in there"

"Well honestly this being the first time I am doing something like this i kinda hope nothing to exiting happens Sir. Have you done something like this before Sir?

"Several times. First time on Vadhat though. Don't worry lad. I'll make sure as many of you get home as I can, just keep your head on a swivel when we get in there tomorrow"

Aminu pats his pistol an says "Well I hope I won't be needing this one at least because I am not relay trained with it. How many other engenirs do we have?"

"Just one aside from you. That's all we could get on short notice but I'm sure you'll do fine"

Aminu nods and falls into a contemplative silence waiting to meat the rest of the team.

(I don't really introduce one off NPCs unless they're around for a while, so we can move to morning and getting into exploring the ruins)

The team looks to number seven of you in total. There are three experts, you being one of them, and there are four security troopers here. The captain makes eight, and there is every indication the group is preparing to move into the ruins as one the following morning. Everyone looks to be planning on hazarding the danger evenly.

Aminu is spending the time til morning integrating with the team and slowly becoming less riget around the captain. He also inquirers what he should be the most on the lookout for.

(OOC: if noting special comes up I assume general structural integrity i.e. "will the ceiling kill me?" as a default).

None of them have been in the ruins before so they don't know what to expect. Looking for signs that you're not there alone, taking special attention to mark your trail so you do not get lost, and things like structural integrity and general hazards are something the entire group is going to be watching for. Entering the ruins after a short break fast you pass through the metal tunnel that leads inside rthe ruins of the facility. The standby lights are still running and have changed to a green in color, signaling a radiation leak somewhere in the facility ahead - but not here as the lights are not yellow or red. Shallow stairs lead further down into the main lobby, and for the moment things seem secure. A metal plaque that indicated this facility was responsible for advancements in rocketry and stellar engineering- namely the space elevator that once stood proud in the middle of the landmass.

Aminu quickly double checks the radiation level himself and tries to think about about what could be the source of it. A reactor was the obvious answer but maybe there was something else that makes sense.

All you can make are educated guesses about the sources of possible radiation here at the entryway of the facility. The stone plinths are each home to busts showing previous party chairmen of the Vadhat Communist Party, and several of the busts also depict heads of the Vadhat space program- people responsible for the construction and smooth running of the space elevator. One of the statues is not sitting on its plinth as firmly as the others as it looks to be far lighter.

Aminu looks up from his tools and opens this moth just to close it again. After glaring at the misplaced statue for a bit he speaks "Heds up, that statue looks weird and I don't like that."

“What do you make of it?” The captain asks , waiting to see what you think might be happening here

"I don't know. back at home i would say it is a boby trap but this thing is a bit to obvious for that." Aminus answers slowly. "Maybe a securety robot? unlikely but a plausible worst case scenario. I would suggest we get some cover and take a shot at it to see if it try to kill us." he concludes but imiditly speaks up again."unless of coerce you have some sort of credentials that would deactivate such measures using them after opening fire wold be dificult."

None of them have credentials for a facility that has not been in use in several years. Ordering everyone to cover, the expedition leader takes a shot at the bust, shattering it and releasing the pressure switch that it was sitting on top of. THe bulkhead doors begin to open, letting the group further in.

Aminu shrungs "well maybe I was over paranoid but that works," he picks up a nearby piece of debry looking it over.

The statue has been blown into several pieces. There is nothing special about them now that they have been broken. The release of weight has opened the bulkhead doors into the facility beyond and this seems to be the focus of the group as they heft their packs and prepare to move out.

Aminu tosses away the piece he was holding happy he didn't cause something valuable to be destroyed and files in with the rest of the group.

The hallway door opens into an expansive series of offices and the soldiers among the group move forward first, guns up, before declaring the room clear for the rest of you to advance.

Well Aminu imidietly creeks if any of the computers work. And if someone was so nice as to siply leave their password laing around on a note.

The computers in these offices are working. They all look to be password protected and there is no evidence anyone left their passwords laying around. Access to these machines would need to be forced in order to glean any information from them.

Aminu tuns to the Captain "I can try to get acses to computers but I might trip a securety sysem. That can mean both deleted data and trouble."

"It's a risk we're going to have to take. If you think you can do it, that's why you're here, do the best you can" He gestures for one of the security detail to accompany you, just in case.

(We can ask three questions of the database, basically representing what you're searching for before anti tampering software locks the computer down. This is probably several in game hours of searching even though we would wrap it up in the thread much faster)

(We will say you have a map. I'm not sure how long I want this to go so there's a couple I might post as we get into other rooms. We'll just say you have it and I'll be describing rooms in more detail for obtaining it. ) The facility was working on energy projects, harnessing different types of fuels for cleaner reactions, and in developing a new generation of energy weapons and energy based defenses for ships and vehicles. THeir work was only just beginning at the time of The Scream and they were not in operation long enough to produce a working prototype of any of their ideas. Each room has a camera in it. Only the lab rooms have further layers of security with automated gun turrets rigged to floor pressure sensors inside those rooms.

(Oh this is fine saying that my carater has a sense of orientation and where importend places like the rooms with turrets are is fine with me) Animu swears as the security system bots him out and looks down the computer but starts smiling when he seas what information he was able to scrape out of the system. He goes over to the captain to report his findings " I got the most important information out of the systems her is the map and i marked the turret that seam to be the only security but i was booted out of the system so no garentys" while the captain looks over the map he continues "unfortunately it seams like they didn't get very far in their recherche here so the only thing around seams to be state of the art pre-scream lab equipment."

"Not really much of that in this room" the captain says as he takes a moment to think. "We'll look through a few rooms for it, but with the heavy security like this, I'd rather bring all of us home alive"

"Can't argue there especially since the turrets seam to be a pretty explicit anty theft deice in the labs" Aminu nods. "I would like to investigate the radiation leak tough just to make sure it is noting that is time critical there." he pauses for a second and then asks thoughtfully on that note how well dose the cbss medical system deal with cancer?"

"We'd ensure a biopsionic physician is going to be on hand once we return from the mission to make sure we're not carrying anytyhing like that with us. You're going to feel tired for a couple days after, but it's better than cancer"

"Well sounds good. Then we will investigate that leek next?" Aminu asks already taking out his giger counter.

(That would be part of a survey scanner, if you have one of those then you'd be able to get a reading, if you don't , then we won't know how many rads are in the area)

The leak is concentrated deeper into the facility. You and the soldier sent to accompany you dons an atmofilter, and as you walk it looks like the source of the leak is coming from the reactor room. Its heavy doors are closed and locked via a keypad lock. There is a small green light letting you know the lock is locked, and the keypad has power.

Anminu studies the Door for a while before speaking up "OK I highly recommend we investigate this leak. That is if i can get past this keypad because I don't want to force a door in front of a reactor" he takes a look around "we should maybe make some makeshift barricades before we try getting in case there is a lot of radiation behind those Doors".

The expedition group has brought a few instapanels with them and the soldier with you can set them up in front of the door. They are not meant to take large amounts of punishment or damage, but provide obstacles and the barrier you are seeking. It takes ten minutes for him to set the panels up with your help, waiting to see how you want to approach this next.

(Just to chek the only interface with the door is a keypad asking for a number/letter combination right?)

Aminu takes out his toolkit and trys to get to the cabling behide the panel.

With a handful of parts on hand, the door's keypad makes a beep as you wire a work around and the door unlocks. Dust and grit fall from the gaps in the door as the pressure is released, and the Open and Closed buttons begin to flash.

"Well glad that worked lets see what we have here now" Animus says cefuly tying to get a viw of the space behind the doors.

The reactor's housing has been damaged and you can see several cracks in the armorglass containment vessel that keeps the radiation inside the reactor. Damage to the facility has spread into this room as well. Most of the control panels have also been smashed, but the engineering panel and the reactor controls themselves still look functional.

Aminu makes his way over to the reactor controls trying to cheap out of direct line of sight from the cracks. He fridels with the panels to see if he can gleam any information about the reactor and more importantly if it can be shut down. He addressees the Captain without looking: "Yeah I was hoping we could just patch whatever leak we find but given the stat of this room I strongly recommend we shut this thing down close the doors behind us an tell however comes next to just bring a generator."

The reactor has little fuel left. There are no control rods remaining to help it regulate the remaining temperature within, It will not melt down, but it is spilling radiation at low levels through the facility. Shutting it down will cut power to the computers, and will keep doors stuck in their current open or closed positions.

Loking over the controls for a while Aminu corrects himself:"Acutely never mind that there isn't enough fission material her for anything bad to happen her. the radiation is still a problem but I don't think it will brake anything it has not already broken so..." He finaly turns around to the rest of the grope "we could just close the door behind us and leave."

The guard with you is fine getting away from the reactor. Although you are all going to be given treatment for radiation exposure when this is done, no one wants to take any unnecessary chances. A more skilled repair crew will need to make their way here to boot the reactor again- but they'll be doing so with more information now thanks to your scouting.

(I was just a bit indeciseve because I was still kind of lost on wehre i wantet to go) Shutting the reactor down Aminu ceaafuly maks his way back outside of the reactor room. Turnig to the captint he asks "so is there anyting important we still ned to do in her? becase I will be honest Sir that was praboably a lot of radiation and we will probally start seing syntoms soon."

(this was just to get your feet wet with some light exploring. We can keep searching the facility, or we can move on to a new mission, up to you)

(well I think i would like to move on. I think this was a good way to get my feat wet but at the same time ther were like no stakes)
